There’s something so joyful about bringing home a bunch of freshly picked flowers. Whether they’re for your home, a special event, or just because — you want them to last as long as possible, right?

At Buzi-B Flower Farm, we take pride in growing blooms that are fresh, local, and full of life. And with just a little care, you can enjoy your flowers for days — even a week or more! Here's how to make the most of your bouquet:

💡 Start Strong: Get Them into Water ASAP

Think of fresh flowers like a living thing — because they are!
They’ll appreciate a clean vase and cool, fresh water as soon as you get home. The quicker they hydrate, the longer they’ll last.

Pro tip: If you’re picking up flowers on a warm day or have a long drive, bring a small bucket or container of water with you. Even just placing the stems in a damp paper towel can help.

✂️ Strip and Snip

Once home, unwrap your bouquet and give it some love:

  • Remove any leaves that would sit below the water line (they can cause rot)

  • Snip 1–2 cm off each stem at an angle

  • Pop them into your clean vase and let them settle in

Keep a pair of floral snips or garden scissors in the kitchen — you’ll use them more often than you think!

🌿 Choose Their Spot Carefully

Flowers do best in cool spaces, away from:

  • Direct sunlight

  • Heat (heaters, fireplaces, appliances)

  • Cold draughts

  • Ripening fruit (it gives off ethylene, which makes flowers wilt faster)

If it’s a hot day, moving your vase to a cooler part of the house can really extend the life of your bouquet.

🔁 Refresh Every 2–3 Days

To keep your blooms vibrant:

  • Change the water

  • Clean the vase (yes, every time)

  • Snip the stems again

It might seem like a lot, but it takes less than 5 minutes — and your flowers will thank you for it!

🌸 Expect Natural Variation

Some flowers naturally last longer than others.
Lisianthus, chrysanthemums and Sweet William can last 7–10 days, while garden roses and dahlias are more delicate and may only last 3–5 days.
That’s part of the beauty of seasonal, pesticide-free blooms — they're real, not plastic-perfect.

🌱 When They're Done, Compost Them

Don’t toss those faded blooms in the bin!
Spent flowers make beautiful compost or mulch for your garden — the cycle continues 🌍
